I’m going into Infantry and wear glasses, when should I get laser corrective surgery, or should I at all?
Question by PinkBrainIsRetardHaHa: I’m going into Infantry and wear glasses, when should I get laser corrective surgery, or should I at all?
Glasses aren’t so bad, and some of the Wiley-X goggles I’ve looked at online can be tailored to my prescription. I’ve got astigmatism too with my near-sightedness, but it’s all correctable to 20/20. I know there are a lot of risk with laser corrective surgery, and with my case with astigmatism, it’s even riskier to get a perfect cut, so I still might have to wear glasses after getting the laser surgery.
I was thinking about just sticking with my glasses and getting those Wiley-X prescriptions for combat goggles once I’m deployed to my unit. I think that’s the best bet, what do you guys think? I guess having perfect eyes would help me quality on the shooting range better when I’m at boot camp, but what can you do right?

I wouldn,t recommend it. There are risks with this procedure such as scar tissue ect. Your eye sight is to precious to gamble with. The Wiley X,s are your best bet. All the best ,dear soldier.

if you wait until your in the Infantry the military will pay for it.
I dont know about laser, especially if your going into the infantry, people that get lasik often have night vision problems, especially if you have large pupils…
I am sure in the infantry (especially if circumstances arise and you have to go to war) you will want to be able to see well at night… there are other potentially issues with lasik as well
hmmm but if it does go well it mite just save your life, what if you lose your goggles/glasses on the field… its a tough call mate
good luck with your decision
There is definately risk with any surgery, but the benefits definately outweight the risks. There is more risk of getting up in the morning and getting into a car accident than with having something going wrong with Laser Sugery, but yet we still drive. I just had LASIK done 2 weeks ago and I can now see 20/10. I have not lost any night vision, if anything, I have better vision now than I did with my glasses. I had astigmitism too and everything went perfect and I have had no pain at all. It was very simple and I was out and done in 15 minutes. I went home after the surgery and emptied the dishwasher, did laundry and some other stuff and took a nap for an hour. So, it definately can’t be that bad. The problem with LASIK is everyone hears the horror stories, but nobody really ever hears the good that comes from it. I think I read somewhere that the chances of something going wrong with LASIK is less than 1% and that was from a national study. I hope this helps and thank you for serving our country.
Just wear BCG. They are safer.
